Design of a Cole-cole Meter for Complex Impedance Measurement of Living Tissues

چکیده
Measurement of complex impedance of biological systems is gaining wide popularity in determining the pathological and physiological status of tissues in research areas such as; body fat content, blood freshness, tissue ischemia, skin hydration, and etc. In this paper, we designed a fourprobe, multi-frequency impedance meter for quick assessment of the viability of erythrocyte suspensions under storage conditions. Impedance measurements are based on magnitude-ratio and phase-difference detection principles. The system is built around a sine-wave generator, a voltage controlled current source, a phasegain detector and a microcontroller unit. Device accuracy is checked against the HP 4284A LCR meter under different RC test loads that simulate physiological measurements. As a novelty, Cole-Cole parameters namely R0, R∞, fc, α and the extracellular fluid and intracellular fluid resistances, Re and Ri are directly displayed in the same device, for the ease of use.

In this paper we propose a numerical method to extract the four parameters (Ro, R∞, C, and α) that characterize a single-dispersion Cole-Cole impedance model from its step response, based on modelling the step response using fractional calculus, without requiring direct measurement of the real and imaginary impedance parts. MATLAB simulations using Cole-Cole impedances of fruit tissues with α <...
متن کاملIn Vivo Blood Characterization From Bioimpedance Spectroscopy of Blood Pooling
Characterization of blood impedance properties is important to estimate clinical diagnostic indices such as haematocrit, glucose level and hydration. Current in vivo bioimpedance spectroscopy methods are performed on a body appendage and thus represent a combined measurement of all tissues in the measurement field, rather than the blood individually. This paper describes a novel in vivo measure...

Activities around applications of Electrical Bioimpedance Spectroscopy (EBIS) have proliferated in the past decade significantly. Most of these activities have been focused in the analysis of the EBIS measurements, which eventually might enable novel applications. In Body Composition Assessment (BCA), the most common analysis approach currently used in EBIS is based on the Cole function, which ...

The bioimpedance measurements in humans have been receiving considerable attentions during the past two decades because of several advantages, such as low cost, easy application, non-invasiveness and on-line monitoring. The original bioimpedance technique was bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Within a decade, this technique evolved into the more advanced technique known as bioelectrical i...
